Agartala: Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath promised relief for residents facing sky-high electricity bills. He held a meeting at the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited office in Agartala to address widespread complaints. The session included MD Biswajit Basu, various managers, and Power Secretary Abhishek Singh, who joined via video link. The state government refuses to stay silent on these billing errors.
Nath clarified that the Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission, an autonomous body, hiked the fixed charges, FPPCA, and energy rates. The state government did not authorize these increases. The minister met with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, and top secretaries to hash out a fix. He ordered staff to engage with consumers directly to mend broken relationships. "I have instructed them to look into whether there are any problems or not, and if there is any problem, to solve it by consulting with the consumers and maintaining a cordial relationship," Nath stated.
Technical glitches recently plagued the system. Server crashes left 150,000 prepaid meter users unable to recharge their accounts. To ease the burden, the government now allows these customers to pay their outstanding amounts in six-month installments. Users may also opt to clear their balance in one lump sum payment. Officials must now respond to all incoming complaints immediately. They have orders to reach the site of every reported failure without delay.
