Guwahati: Six men from Nongstoin, Meghalaya, lost 5 lakh rupees after falling for a phony vehicle deal in Assam. The victims traveled to the Goalpara district to meet a broker and his associates at Paikan. The group expected to buy a second-hand vehicle. They were dead wrong.

The brokers lured the men to an isolated spot near Kherpuji Bhairav Chura Hill in the Jogighopa area of Bongaigaon district. Everyone ate a meal together before the situation turned violent. The brokers demanded advance payment for the car. When the group refused, the attackers went on the offensive. They beat the men with sticks and threatened them with weapons.

The attackers stripped the victims of their 5 lakh rupees and fled at high speed in another vehicle. The Jogighopa police arrived shortly after receiving the report. Officers have launched an investigation into the robbery. Police are currently working to identify the suspects, noting that further details on the circumstances are "awaited."
