Agartala: Tripura Opposition leader Jitendra Chaudhury is sounding the alarm on police conduct. He points to a string of disturbing claims across the state. Two separate cases highlight the trouble. The Tripura High Court ordered officials on August 19 to register an FIR against the Officer-in-Charge of the Bishalgarh Police Station in Sepahijala district. The charge involves the theft of gold ornaments. Separately, a woman activist filed a complaint with the North Tripura Superintendent of Police this past Monday. She alleges a molestation attempt by the Officer-in-Charge inside the Kanchanpur Police Station.

Chaudhury, a senior CPI(M) leader, refuses to jump to conclusions but notes the pattern is worrying. "I am not saying that the allegations are hundred per cent genuine, but the way complaints are coming against the police is a grave concern for the citizens of the state," he stated. He argues these incidents tarnish the reputation of a force that once earned the President's Colour for fighting insurgent groups like the TNV, NLFT, and ATTF.

The veteran politician also questioned the silence surrounding the death of DGP Anurag Dhankar. Dhankar died on July 20. Police found him hanging in a washroom at the Agartala headquarters. He remains dead. Justice is missing. Chaudhury further slammed the department for failing to punish those involved in drug seizures worth crores. He warned officers to ignore unlawful orders from ruling party politicians and instead stick to the Constitution to save the force.
