Agartala: The Tripura Human Rights Commission wants a full report from the Director General of Police. The order follows claims of illegal detention and coercion at the Bishalgarh Police Station in the Sepahijala district. Sadhan Paul filed the complaint after his son, Susanta Paul, vanished into police custody.

Police took Susanta around noon on August 4, 2026. The family received no reason for the arrest. Officers held the young man for over 24 hours before taking him to the SDM in Bishalgarh on August 6. The commission noted that these actions could violate fundamental rights under Articles 21 and 22(2) of the Constitution of India.

Sadhan Paul claims the abuse went beyond his son. He told the commission that officers insulted and harassed him when he showed up at the station. Paul further alleged that police forced him to sign a deal to pay Rs 4 lakh to Satin Creditcare Network Limited. He insists he owes no money. The commission agrees the police overstepped. It stated, "recovery of monetary claims is generally a matter for civil remedies and that police cannot use their authority to compel an individual to discharge another person's alleged financial liability."

The commission wants the DGP to inspect the station's CCTV footage and check all internal files. This includes the general diary entries, the arrest memo, and the case diary. The investigation will continue. The DGP must turn in his findings by September 29, 2026.
