Agartala: The Tripura Human Rights Commission closed a case involving 90-year-old Chhaya Rani Goswami. Officials wrongly listed the Kailashahar woman as dead in Aadhaar records. This error blocked her from getting ration benefits for nearly one year.

Justice Arindam Lodh led the commission. They took action after a newspaper report on February 14, 2026, highlighted her plight. Goswami’s son had visited multiple government offices to fix the error. He first found the discrepancy when her name vanished from the family ration card. Despite his efforts, including visits to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, the problem persisted.

SDM Bipul Das represented the District Magistrate during proceedings. He confirmed the administration sent all needed documents to the Unique Identification Authority of India office in Guwahati. The district team even demanded an explanation from UIDAI for the false death status. They got no real answer. The commission found that her social security pension remained active throughout the ordeal.

The commission ultimately cleared the local administration of any blame. They found the error stemmed from a glitch in the UIDAI digital system rather than human neglect. The order stated, "The actual incident appears to have resulted due to technical fault in the digital portal and not for inaction or over action from the administration of Unakoti District." The case is now closed since Goswami is receiving her benefits again.
