Imphal: Manipur authorities ordered a statewide shutdown of all schools, colleges, and universities starting August 20. The mandate lasts through August 22, 2026. Officials cited the state's crumbling law and order situation as the primary driver for the move.

The Education Department issued the directive on August 19. It covers all institutions, regardless of affiliation. Public, private, aided, and unaided schools must comply. This applies to the Board of Secondary Education, the Council of Higher Secondary Education, the CBSE, and other regional boards.

The order stands in the name of the Governor of Manipur. State officials expect full cooperation. The Education Department explicitly tasked local authorities with enforcement, stating they must "ensure necessary implementation of the order" across all districts. Education heads now scramble to circulate the notice to every campus in the region.
