Chakhesang Students Union Opposes Phek Post Transfers to Meluri

Kohima: The Chakhesang Students Union is pushing back against the government plan to move staff and sanctioned posts from the Deputy Commissioner office in Phek to the new district office in Meluri. While the student body supports building an administrative framework in Meluri, they insist that this growth must not come at the expense of Phek.

Phek faces a severe personnel shortage today. Moving positions would cripple local operations and hurt public services. The union leadership, represented by president Povozo Soho and general secretary Rhilo Chiero, demanded the state rethink the transfer order. They argued that any growth must come from new, independent sanctions.

The union issued a clear warning regarding the policy in a press release. "However, such strengthening must be undertaken through the independent sanctioning of adequate posts and manpower for Meluri, without drawing upon or diminishing the existing sanctioned strength of Phek District," the statement read. The group expects officials to protect the institutional interests of the people of Phek while setting up the new administration.
