Agartala: Tripura Police seized 794 kg of dried cannabis from a home in the Sepahijala district late Wednesday night. The haul carries an estimated street value of Rs 1.5 crore. Police arrested the homeowner, Badal Chandra De, during the intelligence-led operation.

Personnel from the Jatrapur Police Station swarmed Laltilla Para in the Bhavanipur Panchayat area at 12:30 a.m. following a tip from the force's intelligence wing. They found 11 Sintex drums stuffed with drugs. De hid the contraband underground inside a newly constructed building on his property.

Officer-in-Charge Parthanath Bhowmik led the raid alongside all sub-inspectors from Jatrapur Police Station and members of the Tripura State Rifles. The Sonamura Sub-Divisional Police Officer and the Sonamura Police Station OC provided backup to ensure no one interfered with the search. Officials called the bust a major victory. The seizure has been described as "one of Jatrapur Police's biggest drug recoveries in recent years."

Authorities booked De under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Officers hauled him to the Jatrapur Police Station for questioning. He appeared before the Sonamura Court on August 13.
