Agartala: Tripura police seized Rs 1.26 crore of contraband in two separate operations ending September 25. Officers detained four people during the sweeps. They are hunting for more suspects now.
West Agartala police tracked a suspicious car to Colonel Chowmuhani late Thursday. The driver refused to stop. He abandoned the vehicle and escaped on foot into the dark. Patrol officers searched the car and found 193 kg of cannabis worth Rs 96 lakh. "An Executive Magistrate and a forensic team were subsequently called to the spot. During a search of the vehicle, police allegedly found a large quantity of suspected ganja packed in several packets," said Officer-in-Charge Sanjit Sen.
A second raid occurred in Kumarghat, Unakoti district. Police detained four individuals after questioning them before a Magistrate. The group revealed where they hid a stash of banned cough syrups. Police found the drugs, valued at Rs 30 lakh, inside a vehicle. Investigators are currently verifying the seized goods while the cases remain open.
