Agartala: Tripura Police identified multiple Agartala hotspots used for drug distribution. Inspector General of Police Manchak Ipper confirmed the crackdown on Thursday, August 13. He appeared alongside West District Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak and West Agartala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sanjit Sen. The force tightened its grip on narcotics over the last week.

Police logged 4,000 cases under the NDPS Act so far. Officers arrested 5,000 suspects in connection with these files. In the Agartala Municipal Corporation area alone, police caught 115 individuals involved in criminal acts fueled by drug use. Many suspects are daily-wage workers who allegedly buy narcotics after their shifts. "Regular drives are underway, but we have adopted a special ground-level approach, particularly in Agartala city," Ipper said.

The IGP warned that adulterated drugs pose severe health risks to users. Authorities plan to treat many users as addiction victims by providing rehabilitation services. Meanwhile, the hunt for dealers continues. The state government aims to make Tripura drug-free, a mandate prioritized by Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha. Officials are now tracking suppliers. "We have identified some areas in Agartala and will go deeper into the network. We will soon bust the drug syndicate and racket and arrest the kingpins involved," Ipper said. The operation extends into rural regions to dismantle the supply chain.
