Meghalaya Power Minister Rules Out Scheduled Load Shedding

Shillong: Power Minister Metbah Lyngdoh confirmed on Wednesday that Meghalaya faces no scheduled load shedding. Residents can expect the lights to stay on. Recent power interruptions plaguing parts of the state stem from maintenance work and localized equipment failures rather than systemic energy shortages.

The Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited, known as MeECL, is currently performing routine upkeep across multiple locations. These jobs frequently force temporary shutdowns. Lyngdoh urged the public not to confuse these planned repair windows with formal, scheduled load shedding programs.

Technical gremlins cause most of the outages. Trees have been crashing into power conductors, and aging transformers are burning out. Lyngdoh monitors the situation closely. He demands regular briefings from department officials, who report that most incidents remain minor in nature. The minister stated, "The power situation was presently under control," despite ongoing consumer frustration over recent service gaps.

State officials continue to track future supply needs against current demand. The government holds regular reviews to spot risks before they trigger total failure. While major load shedding is off the table, residents may still see brief, isolated cuts while crews scramble to fix hardware or prevent further damage.
