Guwahati: Residents of Khowang, Assam, took to the streets on Saturday, July 18, to protest constant power outages. The Khowang Regional Students Union organized the rally at Khowang Ghat. They demanded the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited fix the persistent energy crisis immediately.
Local traders shuttered their shops in solidarity. Businesses in the area ground to a halt as the protest grew. Despite rain, crowds gathered with banners and placards to condemn the utility for its ongoing neglect.
Protesters expressed deep frustration over daily disruptions to their work and lives. One participant noted, "We have been facing irregular power supply for a long time. Despite repeated appeals, the situation has not improved. We had no option but to stage this protest to press for immediate action."
The pressure forced a response from the authorities. APDCL representatives met with the Moran Revenue Circle Officer and the Khowang Sub-Divisional Police Officer to hear complaints. Union leaders handed over a formal memorandum detailing their grievances.
Administration officials promised the protesters they would address the failures and restore reliable service. The government pledged to work on the issues as fast as possible.
