Residents blast APDCL over tree felling and frequent power cuts in North Lakhimpur

Guwahati: North Lakhimpur residents are turning on the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited. They are fed up with messy tree trimming and a grid that dies when the wind blows. The utility crew cut down two healthy trees, a laburnum and a cassia, near the District Commissioner's office on Tuesday morning. A local nature enthusiast planted them at the ASCARD Bank. The town already sat without power since Monday night when crews moved in to clear the lines.

Locals say the workers hacked away at trees rather than trimming back dangerous limbs. They want the Forest Department and civic authorities to step in. Residents questioned the clearance methods and lack of oversight. One resident stated, "Residents who witnessed the incident questioned the manner in which vegetation clearance was being carried out during power-line maintenance."

The power grid itself is failing. Electricity drops out whenever it rains or turns windy. Consumers deal with scheduled and surprise outages constantly. The company often pulls the plug on Sundays and public holidays. This hits families hard when they are at home. Thousands suffer from these disruptions. People are demanding better reliability, proper notice for shutdowns, and smarter, scientific tree management to stop the senseless damage.
