Guwahati: Two brothers drowned Monday morning in the Subansiri River. The tragedy hit Lakhimpur district in Assam. Madhab Baruah, 47, and his younger brother Bhairab Baruah, 43, vanished while performing Pinda Dan at Ghagar Ghat. They were honoring their deceased father.
Strong currents caught the men during the traditional Hindu ritual. Both brothers were state government employees. The search continues. State Disaster Response Force teams reached the site and "launched a search and rescue operation" immediately after the alarm was raised.
