Guwahati: Two teenagers died Monday in Lakhimpur. Bikash Das, 15, and Niharika Das, 14, drowned while bathing in an abandoned channel of the Bolahi River. The tragedy struck at 10 am in Balijan Kaibartta village, located under the Bordoi Gaon Panchayat within the Ghilamora Police Station area.

The current dragged the pair into deeper water. Local residents reached for them with bamboo poles, but the effort failed. It happened fast. Villagers hauled the bodies out of the water and raced to Dhakuakhana State Hospital. Doctors there declared both cousins dead.

Ghilamora police handled the scene. Officers moved the remains to Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital in North Lakhimpur for a post-mortem examination. Authorities are still looking into the incident. A local report stated, "Villagers later recovered the bodies and rushed them to Dhakuakhana State Hospital, where doctors declared both teenagers dead."
