Laban residents demand better communication after sudden power outages

Shillong: Laban residents faced a chaotic Wednesday after an unannounced power outage paralyzed the locality. Families and shopkeepers struggled as electricity vanished without warning. The sudden cut halted household chores, school work, and digital transactions.

Locals expressed anger at the lack of transparency. Wanjop Lating questioned the silence from officials, noting, “If there is scheduled maintenance, the department should at least inform consumers beforehand.” Residents are now demanding that the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited fix its communication practices.

Students could not study while small businesses lost money during the blackout. Manosha Pastieh and shopkeeper Iadalin Nongbet described the frustration of being left in the dark without notice. Meda Wankhar added that even a simple message would help people prepare for maintenance work. The community wants a more reliable supply and clearer updates in the future.
