Meghalaya Power Grid Remains Stable Despite Rainfall Deficit

Shillong: Meghalaya faces a dry season, but the lights stay on. Power remains steady despite the lack of rain. On Tuesday, the Power Department met to map out the future of the state energy sector and the operations of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited.

Power Minister Metbah Lyngdoh confirmed that every unit in the state power projects is running. He noted that the state has successfully avoided any scheduled shutdowns for three years. "Meghalaya has not had any scheduled shutdown in the last three years," Lyngdoh said.

Officials are gaming the market to keep things efficient. The state trades electricity strategically: it buys power when rates are cheap and shifts to internal resources when market prices spike.
