Shillong: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma called for unity in Meghalaya on Wednesday. He spoke at a ceremony in Baniun, Upper Shillong, to lay the foundation stone for a new boundary wall at the Ka Seng Bah Nongshat Nongkhien Hynniewtrep Hynniewskum headquarters. The state government is funding the 41.69 lakh rupee project through the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund for 2025-26.
Sangma watched a Wangala group perform at the site. The display of heritage moved him. "I was very happy to see the Wangala group performing here. It is a powerful message of unity," he said. He told the crowd that progress depends on people working together while they keep their own identities intact. He urged citizens to value their roots while respecting others.
Mylliem MLA Ronnie V Lyngdoh attended the event. He praised the organization for keeping Khasi traditional practices and indigenous faith alive. The group formed in 1982. It offers guidance on traditional rituals and ceremonies across Ri Khasi and Ri Bhoi. Members also provide indigenous medical and spiritual services at the site. The Baniun headquarters belongs to the group thanks to donations from local elders and members. It acts as the home base for promoting Ka Niam Tynrai.
