Agartala: A 28-year-old woman is dead after a violent clash at the Kamalasagar Bhadra Mela in Sepahijala district. Police say Sujita Das suffered a fatal neck wound Saturday night. She died at GBP Hospital in Agartala after staff at the Madhupur Primary Health Centre rushed her there for emergency care.
The trouble started at a vendor stall run by the family of Pritam Nama. Pritam and Das had lived together for three-and-a-half years, a setup that drew sharp criticism from his father, Sanjit Nama, and brother, Nayan Nama. Local youths confronted Sanjit at the fair about the woman accompanying his son. That triggered a heated argument between the two men.
Pritam allegedly attacked his father during the shouting match. Nayan stepped in to break it up, and the situation spun out of control. Police allege Nayan grabbed a knife from the stall and stabbed Das. Officers arrested Nayan later that night at Hapania Hospital. Investigators brought the suspect back to the fairground Sunday to walk through the crime scene as a forensic team gathered evidence.
The mother of the victim, Gouri Das, filed a formal complaint at the Madhupur police station against both Sanjit and Nayan Nama. Authorities produced Nayan before the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Court on Sunday to request his remand. Police sources noted that "Pritam had left his family and had been living with Das at her residence in the ONGC First Gate area" despite his family's persistent attempts to force him home.
