Agartala: Six surrendered militants now sit in jail. Police arrested the men on October 17 after they blocked a national highway in West Tripura district. The group demanded better rehabilitation for former fighters. They belong to the National Liberation Front of Tripura and the All Tripura Tiger Force.

About 16 former militants gathered at Hataikator during the morning. They stopped traffic on the main road. Police spokesperson Rajdeep Deb confirmed that trucks carrying essential supplies stalled on both sides of the blockade. Executive Magistrate Arajit Debbarma arrived at the scene. He told the group to clear the road because of the festival season. The protesters refused to move.

The magistrate declared the assembly illegal. He ordered security forces to open the path. The men fought back. They used criminal force against the officers, sparking a scuffle that left two police personnel injured. The officers eventually cleared the road.

Police filed a suo motu case against the group. A local court remanded the six arrested men to judicial custody until October 31. Officials say the suspects ignored clear instructions. As Rajdeep Deb stated, "they refused to comply" with the order to clear the highway.
