Agartala: The Tripura High Court slammed the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) with fines today. Justice T. Amarnath Goud ordered the utility to immediately restore electricity to three flats inside the Binayak apartment complex in Banamalipur. The court hit TSECL with a Rs 2,000 penalty for each of the three writ petitions filed by the residents.
Owners claimed the utility cut their power despite on-time bill payments. This blackout stems from a feud between the developer and landowner Minister Pranajit Singha Roy. That battle is currently stuck in civil and consumer courts. Lawyers Purushottam Roy Barman, Debalay Bhattacharjee, Samarjit Bhattacharjee, Kaushik Nath, Dipjyoti Pal, and Samar Das fought the case for the residents.
The legal team argued that TSECL buckled under pressure and killed the power without any due process. The judge ordered the utility to turn the lights back on "forthwith" and explain their decision to pull the plug. This ruling provides a win for the residents who spent weeks in the dark. It also serves as a sharp warning to the corporation against targeting tenants in private disputes.
