Agartala: The Tripura High Court opened a probe into the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council today. Judges admitted two Public Interest Litigations challenging the hiring of over 100 Group C and Group D employees. The court issued formal notices to the council to explain the staffing surge. It is a messy legal fight.
Senior advocate Purushottam Roy Barman represents the petitioners. He told the court that the TTAADC bypassed mandatory rules like public advertisements and fair selection. He claims the council relied on backdoor appointments instead. These hires were supposedly made on a pick-and-choose basis. The petitioners previously tried to get information through the Right to Information Act but hit a wall. They sent a legal notice to the council and waited for an answer. No response ever came.
Roy Barman noted the authorities ignored local media reports regarding the controversy as well. "The petitioners allege that the TTAADC made backdoor appointments by bypassing the mandatory recruitment process," he stated in court. The TTAADC has not issued a public statement on the matter yet. The court ordered the council to file a counter affidavit. Judges set August 6 as the date for the next hearing.
