Agartala: The Tripura High Court admitted two Public Interest Litigations targeting the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council over irregular hiring. The suits claim the council filled between 100 and 200 Group C and Group D positions through backdoor channels. Petitioners argue these hires bypassed mandatory public advertisements and transparent selection criteria.
Senior advocate Purushottam Roy Barman represented the petitioners. He contends the council ignored constitutional guarantees under Articles 14, 15, and 16. These laws protect equal access to public employment. The petitioners attempted to gather facts via the Right to Information Act and formal legal notices. The TTAADC allegedly ignored every request for records.
Roy Barman blasted the council for its silence during court proceedings. He stated, "The ADC administration has not maintained transparency from the very beginning. Despite repeated requests and legal notices, it has neither provided the information nor denied the reports published in newspapers." The council failed to refute media reports suggesting the existence of these appointments.
The court ordered the TTAADC to submit a counter affidavit. Judges set the next hearing for August 6. Petitioners now ask the court to cancel any appointments found to be illegal. The court has not yet ruled on the substance of the claims.
