Agartala: Justice Biswajit Palit ordered the Teachers Recruitment Board, Tripura, to give one extra mark to nine T-TET 2024 Paper-I candidates. The August 21 ruling follows a writ petition challenging the final answer key. The court ruled the state failed to justify why an answer accepted in 2022 was suddenly marked wrong in 2024.
The dispute centers on a question titled, "Anarchic Theory of Intelligence is known as." Petitioners marked "Group Factor Theory" as their answer. This matched the 2022 final key exactly. In the 2024 exam, the board declared "None of the above" as the correct choice. The question appeared as Question 9 in Series A, Question 18 in Series B, and Question 30 in Series C.
State lawyers argued against judicial interference in expert academic decisions. They noted the petitioners missed the deadline to challenge the tentative key. A three-member committee reviewed the matter in July 2025 but kept the 2024 ruling. The court rejected this stance. Justice Palit stated, "the respondents had failed to provide a concrete basis for treating a disputed answer as incorrect."
The High Court dismissed the state’s reliance on previous case law, citing factual differences. Officials now have two months to award the marks and publish updated results for the nine petitioners. The court disposed of the petition along with all related pending applications.
