Agartala: Manik Sarkar wants answers. The former Tripura Chief Minister and CPI(M) Politburo member claims the state government is failing its people. Tripura produces more power than it needs. Yet, residents still suffer from frequent outages. Sarkar spoke to reporters at a blood donation camp in the Agartala District Court.
The event was hosted by the All India Lawyers Union. Sarkar blamed poor infrastructure and bad maintenance for the current grid failures. He pointed to the Left Front government’s old planning. That era turned Tripura into a power-surplus state. "Tripura has no shortage of electricity. Long-term planning during the Left Front government made Tripura one of the few surplus power states in the country. But today, mismanagement in the sector is being imposed on consumers," Sarkar stated.
Sarkar noted the irony. The state sells power to other northeastern neighbors. Meanwhile, local lines stay neglected. He wants officials to fix poles and improve distribution immediately. Citizens are getting angry. Protests are popping up at the subdivision level. People are submitting formal deputations to authorities. Sarkar warned against violence, though. He told supporters to keep their movements peaceful and democratic. Attacking electricity offices only hurts public property bought with taxpayer money. He labeled the government’s response as empty propaganda. Basic survival relies on steady electricity. Sarkar demands the state fix this crisis now.
