Agartala: Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar hammered the Tipra Motha Party on August 6 for its management of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. Sarkar claims the council is effectively dead. It exists in name only.
The Tipra Motha Party won 24 seats in the last election. Despite this mandate, Sarkar says they have not set up a working committee or started a single development plan. He described the situation in tribal regions as desperate. The people have no work, no employment, and no food.
Sarkar stated that poverty has grown so severe that families have resorted to selling their children. Indigenous youths are fleeing the state to find work elsewhere. Some die far from home, leaving their families struggling to repatriate the bodies. Sarkar demanded to know, "Is there anybody to look after them?"
The CPI(M) leader challenged voters to reconsider their support for the current leadership. He accused the party of ignoring unemployment and poverty to chase its own interests. While he admitted the party previously misled many young people, he insists the public tide is turning. The Tipra Motha Party has not yet responded to these accusations.
