Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma and top church leaders are pushing back against the proposed Foreign Contribution Regulation Amendment Bill, 2026. The group met Saturday at the Chief Minister's residence to finalize a formal opposition to the federal legislation. They labeled the current draft unacceptable.
Lalduhoma met with the Council of Churches in Mizoram and the Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee to map out their strategy. The state government plans to draft a memorandum demanding specific changes to the bill. He intends to press Union Home Minister Amit Shah for an urgent meeting. A joint delegation plans to travel to New Delhi to hand over the document. The Chief Minister was joined by advisors and MLAs Lalmuanpuia Punte and TBC Lalvenchhunga during the talks.
"We have found certain provisions in the proposed FCRA amendment, which are not acceptable to us. Following consultations with church leaders, we will place our views before the Centre," Lalduhoma said.
This push follows a warning from the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee. The opposition party recently submitted a memorandum demanding a special Assembly session. They claim the law threatens local NGOs and Christian interests. The Chief Minister initially mentioned the upcoming consultation while celebrating Kawrthah North village in Mamit district for winning the Clean and Green Panchayat category in the 2025 Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar.
