Mizoram ZPM Accuses Opposition of Obsessing Over Chief Minister

Aizawl: Mizoram's ruling Zoram People's Movement struck back at critics on September 25. The party accused opposition groups of fixating on Chief Minister Lalduhoma rather than building their own platforms for the 2028 assembly elections. Senior vice-president Dr. Kenneth Chawngliana delivered the rebuke during a press conference at the ZPM office in Aizawl.

Chawngliana dismissed the opposition tactics as a tired, old style of politics. He urged rivals to put forward clear policies so voters can judge the competing agendas. The ZPM wants a debate on development, not personal attacks. He warned opponents to drop what he called false and fabricated allegations about internal party affairs.

The tension follows a shake-up within the Val Upa Council. Two members, Bualhranga and Rin Sanga, quit the 11-member body on September 21. They cited frustrations with the party and the conduct of the Chief Minister. Chawngliana flatly rejected these claims. He insisted the council operates independently from political influence. He claimed that outside pressure only builds solidarity, stating, "The ZPM did not agree with their views."

The ZPM leadership wants party workers to keep their cool. They told followers to avoid biting back with offensive language on social media. Political activity will likely heat up across the state as the 2028 polls draw closer.
