Aizawl: Mizoram Police and the Assam Rifles cleared the streets of over Rs 2.41 crore in illicit narcotics. Four arrests followed three separate busts in Saitual district between August 9 and August 13. Officials confirmed the details Tuesday.
The biggest hit came Thursday. Officers stopped a truck and found 868 grams of heroin tucked inside 73 soap cases. The stash holds a street value near Rs 1.74 crore. Police arrested the driver, Monwar Singh Barbhuiya, and his helper, Abdul Kayum Munna. Both men hail from Cachar district, Assam. Authorities booked the pair under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the Saitual police station.
Officers made another move on August 10 near Keifang. They caught Vungngailun, a resident of Henglep, Manipur, hauling 292 grams of heroin valued at Rs 58.40 lakh. He intended to move the cargo toward Aizawl. He also faces charges under the NDPS Act.
The string of busts began August 9 at Tuisa Road in Kawlbem village. Ngopa Police and Assam Rifles cornered Samuel Lalruatpuia, a local Kawlbem resident. They recovered 18.52 kilograms of ganja worth Rs 9.26 lakh. Officials stated, "Further investigation into the seizures and alleged trafficking network is continuing."
