Aizawl: Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) stopped a drug shipment in Mizoram on Thursday. They intercepted a Suzuki Eeco ambulance near the Sakei Bangla Restaurant in the Seling area of Aizawl district. Inside, agents found 15 kilograms of methamphetamine. The load carries a street value of roughly Rs 45 crore.
Traffickers faked a medical emergency to move the stash. A woman played the role of a patient to dodge police suspicion. The ruse failed. Authorities arrested three people on the scene. They also seized the ambulance used to haul the haul.
The operation grew from intelligence gathered by both agencies. It marks a heavy blow to regional smuggling routes. Officials handed the suspects and the narcotics over to the DRI. The investigation proceeds under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Assam Rifles hailed the bust as a major win. The force stated, "The operation underscored the continuing coordination between the force and the DRI to disrupt drug trafficking networks operating along the Northeast’s international borders." Mizoram remains a primary target for syndicates using the Myanmar border as a gateway for synthetic drugs.
