Assam Police Seize Massive Yaba Stash and Heroin in Two Operations

Guwahati: Assam police launched two major anti-narcotics strikes, netting 88,000 Yaba tablets and 93.3 grams of heroin. Officers arrested six people involved in the drug trade. The seizures mark a hit against an interstate trafficking network moving illegal substances into the state.

In Sribhumi, police intercepted an unregistered Maruti Eeco van in the Channighat area near Ramakrishnanagar. They found 80,000 Yaba tablets hidden inside 240 soap boxes. The street value sits at Rs 8 crore. SDPO Anshul Sharma and Officer-in-Charge Priyabrata Sharma led the raid. Authorities identified the three suspects as Enam Hussain, Shamim Uddin, and Altaf Hussain. Investigators believe the shipment originated in Mizoram.

Separately, Cachar Police set up a checkpoint on National Highway 37 at Ujan Tarapur. They stopped an Alto K10 car, registration number AS-11M-6105, traveling toward Pailapool. A search revealed 8,000 Yaba tablets weighing 850 grams and four packets of heroin. Police also confiscated three mobile phones. Field tests confirmed the substances. Police said, "The seized narcotics and the vehicle have been confiscated, and a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act."

Officials are currently interrogating all six suspects to track down other syndicate members. Both cases fall under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The accused face upcoming court dates as the investigations proceed.
