Guwahati: Law enforcement launched Operation Trident on October 23, hitting 38 locations across Mizoram, Assam, and Manipur. Police, the Narcotics Control Bureau, and the Directorate of Enforcement formed 38 joint teams to dismantle inter-state drug networks. The raids spanned Aizawl, Champhai, Lawngtlai, Churachandpur, and Guwahati.
Authorities arrested 18 people and seized 500 detonators plus Rs 12 lakh in cash. Investigators froze 1,424 bank accounts tied to narco-hawala schemes. The Directorate of Enforcement also provisionally attached properties worth Rs 17.82 crore. The crackdown targeted key border routes, including Zokhawthar near the Indo-Myanmar border.
Mizoram Home Minister K. Sapdanga confirmed the agency’s goal to dismantle the entire financial apparatus behind the trade. "The operation was intended not only to disrupt suspected drug trafficking networks but also to target the financial channels and support systems allegedly sustaining them, including hawala operators and mule bank accounts," Sapdanga said.
The Mizoram Police arrested five suspects, including Basanta Doley, Elajyoti Pegu Doley, Jitu Kalita, Paotinmang Haokip, and Nemhoiting Khongsai. The Narcotics Control Bureau took seven more into custody across Aizawl and Champhai. Meanwhile, the Directorate of Enforcement arrested six individuals across Mizoram, Gujarat, and Manipur under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
