Guwahati: Bulldozers flattened 32 concrete shops and one house in Assam’s Lakhimpur district on Friday. The Revenue Department cleared the unauthorized structures from government land in Bihpuria. This operation marks the start of a wider district campaign. Authorities plan to repeat the process at four other sites including Balijan, Koilamari, Bogeenadi, and No. 1 Dharmapur.

The morning demolition at the Dharmapur Saturday Weekly Haat went off without a hitch. Officials from the Bihpuria Revenue Circle and security forces supervised the heavy machinery. The state had issued prior warnings to all occupants. Many residents chose to tear down their illegal buildings themselves before the crews arrived.

Bihpuria Circle Officer Namita Bora confirmed the team reclaimed three bighas of public property. She noted that the operation faced zero resistance from the community. "The eviction drive is being carried out without any hindrance. We have full cooperation from the local public. We made prior communications and consultations with the concerned locals and therefore we’ve no problems here," Bora said.
