Guwahati: Assam added 43 postgraduate medical seats to its tally. The National Medical Commission greenlit the expansion at Lakhimpur Medical College and Diphu Medical College. State totals now hit 839 seats. Every new slot falls under clinical disciplines.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the news on Dhanteras. The expansion covers MD General Medicine, MD Anaesthesiology, MD Paediatrics, MD Pathology, and MD Radio-Diagnosis. Students can also apply for MS General Surgery and MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The state government expects these slots to grow the pool of specialists available to treat patients.
Sarma celebrated the news on social media. "This Dhanteras, Assam strikes gold! More MD seats added, opening more doors for our future doctors," he wrote. Officials view the move as a direct investment into the state healthcare infrastructure.
