Imphal: The documentary film Meira earned an official selection for the Bangalore Documentary Film Festival 2026. The event runs from November 5 to 8 at the Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan in Bengaluru. Attendees can catch the screening on November 6.

Filmmaker and scholar Johnson Rajkumar directed the project. Deepika Gurumayum produced the film. It tracks the historic and ongoing resistance of the Meira Paibi. The story shows how ordinary women became a collective force to protect their communities. This project serves as Rajkumar's second documentary focusing on the movement. His previous work, Fireflies, also covered the Meira Paibi and earned slots at various international festivals.

Rajkumar currently works as guest faculty in the Department of Mass Communication at Manipur University. Organizers from the Bangalore Film Forum put the festival together. As Rajkumar noted regarding his work, "Meira explores the historic and continuing resistance of the Meira Paibi, tracing how ordinary women came together to protect their communities and emerged as a collective force of resistance."
