Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh honored Imphal West and Pherzawl districts on November 6 for reaching Surakshit status. These two regions hit the 95-95-95 targets set by the National AIDS Control Organisation under their Mobilization for AIDS Suraksha initiative in October 2026.
The awards ceremony took place at the Cabinet Hall of the Chief Minister's Office in Mantripukhri. Officials from the Manipur State AIDS Control Society organized the event. Khemchand Singh pushed the Health Department to push for similar results across the rest of the state.
Health and Family Welfare Commissioner and MACS president Sumant Singh noted the historic nature of the success. He explained the metrics behind the achievement. Sumant Singh stated, "Viral suppression indicates that treatment has effectively controlled the virus."
The 95-95-95 goal requires that 95 percent of people living with HIV know their status. It also demands that 95 percent of those diagnosed get antiretroviral therapy. Finally, 95 percent of patients on that therapy must achieve viral suppression. This confirms the drugs are working.
The Chief Minister awarded representatives from the district administrations, Chief Medical Offices, and District Integrated Strategy of HIV teams. Attendees included Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur and MACS Project Director Anna Arambam. Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh attended in person. Pherzawl Deputy Commissioner Anunay Anand joined the meeting through video conferencing.
