Kohima: North East Christian University and the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society teamed up for an e-seminar on October 15. Two hundred delegates gathered in Dimapur to sharpen their skills. The event ran from 8 am to 4 pm and focused on antiretroviral therapy, viral suppression, and patient care.
Dr. Hotoka Hesso of the Model ART Plus Centre and CIHSR Nurse Counsellor Bendangtemsula led the training. Kapuw Kaini, Rovino Khate, and Imliwapangla Ao organized the sessions. Kaini opened the day by stressing the importance of clinical updates and nursing strategies to boost treatment adherence. Hesso tackled the concept of U=U, noting, "Undetectable = Untransmittable."
He explained how ART lowers viral loads to keep patients healthy and stop the spread of the virus. Regular monitoring and consistent medication remain vital. Bendangtemsula highlighted the hurdles patients face daily. Stigma, fear, financial woes, and medication side effects often derail treatment. Nurses can fight back through education, reminders, and compassionate, non-judgmental support.
The training moved into long-term strategies and medication safety. Hesso detailed how to spot drug interactions and when to refer patients for further assessment. Bendangtemsula pushed for evidence-based care, urging nurses to keep their clinical practice current. The day ended with a post-test and feedback session for the 200 attendees. Organizers handed out certificates after verifying attendance.
