Kohima: Thirty-nine B.Sc. Nursing students officially joined the medical ranks at the College of Nursing, District Hospital Dimapur. The school held its second lamp lighting and oath taking ceremony on October 13 at the Chapel Hall.
Dr. George Thirah, the hospital's medical superintendent, spoke to the class. He told students to become caregivers who patients welcome, not staff who patients merely tolerate until the shift ends. Thirah also pushed the group to seek work abroad, noting that the global market needs competent, trained nurses.
Tiakala Longkumer, the joint director of nursing, recounted her own time as a student. She urged the attendees to stay compassionate as technology and artificial intelligence continue to reshape the medical field.
Prof. Emi Humtsoe, nursing superintendent at CIHSR, explained the weight of the Florence Nightingale pledge. She reminded the students that the heart of the job stays constant despite modern changes: “serving with humility and compassion.”
Dr. Rachel Ao, the principal in charge, talked about the grit needed for the path ahead. She pressed the students to keep their commitment strong throughout their training.
Assistant professor Molungnenla Imchen led the lamp lighting and the oath, while colleague Bendangrenla Jamir managed the welcome address. Pursangla I chaired the event. Rev. Yhunlo Thong, the hospital chaplain, ended the program with prayers for the new students.
