Kohima: North East Christian University and the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society held a one day state level e-seminar on October 15. Two hundred delegates logged on. They focused on the role of nursing in boosting viral suppression and patient adherence to treatment. Kapuw Kaini, Rovino Khate, and Imliwapangla Ao organized the event in Dimapur.
Kaini opened the session. She stressed the importance of clinical updates and nursing strategies to support treatment adherence. Dr. Hotoka Hesso from the District Hospital Dimapur and Nurse Counsellor Bendangtemsula of CIHSR acted as resource persons.
Dr. Hesso explained the concept of Undetectable equals Untransmittable. He noted that antiretroviral therapy significantly cuts viral load to prevent disease transmission. He also taught attendees about managing drug interactions and long-term medication adherence. Bendangtemsula led discussions on common barriers to care. She pointed to stigma, financial strain, and drug side effects as primary obstacles. Bendangtemsula insisted on "compassionate, non judgmental care" during her sessions.
The training moved into clinical protocol updates. Nurses examined evidence-based practices to improve patient-centered outcomes. The event wrapped up with a post-test and certificate distribution. Organizers hope the session helps staff better support people living with HIV across the region.
