Guwahati: Jasmin left her village in Kharupetia, Assam, for the bustle of Bengaluru. She is only 21. She now raises her young daughter, Laiba, thousands of kilometers from her roots. The food tastes foreign. The languages are strange. She faces a total shift in social expectations.

These adjustments serve as the focus for Laiba Ka Ghar. Director Archana Phadke captured this journey on film. The documentary premiered on YouTube on 1 October 2026. The Azim Premji Foundation presented the project.

The film explores how migration tests one’s sense of self. Jasmin finds that old ideas regarding caste and community shift in a new city. She builds a life among neighbors from vastly different backgrounds. Her struggle defines the film. It captures the resilience of a young mother creating a secure space in an unfamiliar world.

The title refers to more than just bricks and mortar. It questions the very definition of a home. "What makes a home?" the film asks. Jasmin answers this through her daily work and the relationships she forms. She carries memories of the Brahmaputra while securing a future in the south.

The Azim Premji Foundation backed the release. Azim Premji, the former Wipro chairman, established the group in 2001. The foundation focuses on public education and social equity. This story brings a human face to the massive trend of internal migration across India.
