Guwahati: A parliamentary health panel wants Assam’s hospital funding model to go national. The Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare formally backed the state’s strategy, which lets public hospitals keep and spend insurance cash earned through the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. Officials now want the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to draft standard operating procedures to force this shift across India.
Hospitals keep the reimbursements to buy new medical gear, fix up buildings, and boost patient services. The committee labeled the strategy a "highly pragmatic and replicable model" for the rest of the country. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed the news. He expressed his sincere gratitude to committee chairman Ram Gopal Yadav and the panel members for the nod.
Sarma said he was "pleased to learn" about the official recognition. He added it is a matter of great pride that an Assam-born initiative earned such a high recommendation. The state will now wait for the ministry to finalize the new rules for adoption.
