Guwahati: Former students of Dibrugarh Marwari Hindi High School rallied outside the Dibrugarh District Commissioner’s office yesterday. They demand accountability. The group claims severe administrative rot and corruption plague the institution they once attended. The school currently faces intense scrutiny from local political parties, social groups, and student organizations.
The protesters allege that the Marwari Education Foundation, a private trust, hijacked control of the school. This is despite the Assam government officially provincializing the facility. The foundation reportedly bypassed the state-appointed headmaster by installing their own. The state's choice holds a title but lacks any real power. The foundation runs the show. Decisions are made without government oversight.
Allegations of mismanagement extend to the kitchen as well. Protesters claim that food supplies meant for the mid-day meal scheme were left to rot in storage for years. These resources never reached the students. The group asserts that these financial and administrative failures destroyed the academic environment. They fear for the welfare of current pupils.
The demonstrators delivered a memorandum to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. They want an immediate state intervention. They expect the government to punish those responsible for the decay. One protester stated, "The alleged administrative and financial irregularities have affected the school's academic environment and raised concerns about the welfare of current students."
