Assam Minister Blasts Rahul Gandhi Over Debate Demands

Guwahati: Assam Minister Ashok Singhal went after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on November 6. He ripped into the Opposition leader for demanding a public debate with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Singhal claims Gandhi avoids Parliament and lacks support within his own party ranks. It is a messy situation.

Singhal hit back at the request for a public stage. He insists the floor of Parliament is the only place for such work. The minister accused Gandhi of stalling legislative proceedings rather than addressing the nation through proper channels. He went as far as to say, "Rahul Gandhi is not taken seriously by the Congress party itself. The people of the country also do not take him seriously. Why are you taking him so seriously?"

The minister also questioned why Gandhi, as the Leader of the Opposition, consistently fails to engage Prime Minister Modi inside the House. He predicted the Congress leader would soon ditch these political demands for a foreign tour. Singhal says there is no consistency in his actions. He expects the travel plans to surface within four days.

Singhal praised Prime Minister Modi for his work over the last 12 and a half years. He credited the Prime Minister with lifting the country out of darkness and elevating India to the status of a Vishwamitra on the global stage.
