Guwahati: BJP leaders in Guwahati launched a sharp offensive against the Congress party on July 22 and 23. They condemned the recent demonstration by Rahul Gandhi and opposition members outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official residence in New Delhi. The protest, sparked by the NEET paper leak, triggered a heated political confrontation.
Assam Minister Biswajit Daimary hit the streets on July 22 to denounce the demonstration. He labeled the act irresponsible and pushed for the ongoing investigation to run its course. "Congress leaders, along with MPs from some opposition parties, staged a demonstration in front of the Prime Minister's residence. Such things should not happen in a democratic country like ours," Daimary said.
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu escalated the rhetoric on July 23. He accused Rahul Gandhi of trying to revive a struggling party by exploiting student grievances. Pegu held a press conference alongside party officials Diplu Ranjan Sharma, Anup Barman, Kishore Upadhyay, and Rupam Goswami to frame the Congress tactics as pure political theater.
Pegu defended the central government's handling of the paper leak. He pointed to the swift arrests of suspects and the Prime Minister's move to set up fast-track courts. The minister contrasted the current administration's record with the UPA era, claiming the education budget ballooned from ₹8,225 crore to roughly ₹1.3 lakh crore under Modi.
The Education Minister also targeted opposition-led states. He presented a list of alleged exam irregularities spanning 2025-26 in Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, West Bengal, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, and Himachal Pradesh. He specifically pointed to Rajasthan, citing the tenure of former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot as a period of frequent paper leaks.
Pegu stated that the BJP and its NDA allies remain ready for a full parliamentary debate on systemic reforms. He argued that the INDIA bloc preferred disruption over constructive discussion. The minister maintains that real change requires cooperation, not political stunts that undermine the office of the Prime Minister.
