Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took a sharp swipe at Rahul Gandhi on October 23. He compared the Congress leader to a stale commodity. Speaking after a cabinet meeting, Sarma claimed the Congress keeps trying to relaunch the same product year after year.
Sarma leaned into remarks previously made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He mocked the Congress party for branding the 57-year-old Gandhi as a Gen Z icon. The Chief Minister pointed out his own age, noting he is also 57. He joked that by Congress logic, he too should be considered part of the younger generation.
Sarma labeled Gandhi an eternal youth product who never ages and never matures. He claimed the party treats Gandhi as a youth leader regardless of his lack of political growth. "Congress has discovered one product for India that is an eternal youth product called Rahul Gandhi," Sarma stated. He argued the public is exhausted by these constant political reintroductions.
The Chief Minister also alleged that Gandhi retreats abroad for a cooling-off period following every electoral defeat. Once he returns, the party attempts to push him as a fresh face. Sarma insisted that while the party leaders do not tire of these efforts, the voters are fed up with seeing the same failed product on the shelf.
