Guwahati: The Assam Minority Struggle Council is accusing the state government of religious discrimination following a recent eviction drive in Lutumari. Families now lack shelter. The group, also known as the Sankhyalaghu Sangram Parishad, says Muslim residents were specifically targeted during the operation in the Kachua area of Nagaon district.
Abubakkar Siddiqui, the group's central general secretary, hit back at the government during a press event in Juria. He labeled the move inhumane. "The eviction was inhumane and carried out on religious grounds," Siddiqui said. He claims officials used bulldozers primarily against homes owned by Muslims.
The organization now demands the BJP-led government pay compensation and house those who lost everything. They want results soon. If the state refuses to act, Siddiqui warns of a massive, state-wide agitation. The council plans to mobilize people across Assam to protest unless authorities provide for the displaced families immediately.
