Union Sports Minister Backs Mizoram Athletes and Infrastructure

Aizawl: Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya pledged federal backing to boost sporting talent in Mizoram. He met with state BJP youth wing president Robinson Malsawmtluanga Hmar and vice president H Malsawmtluanga in New Delhi on Tuesday. The state BJP unit released details of the discussion on Wednesday, September 2.

Hmar pushed for better facilities to help Mizo athletes reach national and international stages. He cited India's bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games as a reason for modernizing infrastructure. Boxing requires specific attention. Hmar asked for a large, modern boxing hall and briefed the minister on problems hindering the Mizoram Boxing Association.

Mandaviya promised to help. He told the delegation he would direct the Boxing Federation of India to address the association's concerns immediately. The minister insisted his office is committed to supporting young talent in the Northeast. "I am aware of the sporting talent among Mizo youth," Mandaviya noted during the meeting. He encouraged Hmar to reach out whenever local athletes hit roadblocks.
