Aizawl: The Mizoram government will pay Rs 25 lakh each to hockey players Lalremsiami and Lalthantluangi. The two athletes earned the cash for their part in winning gold at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. They are the first from the state to secure an Asian Games gold. The victory ended a 44-year title drought.
India beat China 1-0 in the final. Lalremsiami scored the winning goal. That lone point clinched the tournament and qualified the team for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Chief Minister Lalduhoma praised the squad for the performance. He specifically noted the efforts of Arjuna Awardee Lalremsiami.
The payout comes from the state’s Sports Incentives Cash Award Scheme. Lalduhoma confirmed the reward on social media. "In recognition of their outstanding achievement, both players shall be awarded Rs 25 lakh each under the existing Mizoram Sports Incentives Cash Award Scheme," the Chief Minister said. He wished both players and the national team more success in the future.
