Guwahati: Lovlina Borgohain secured her spot in the women's 75kg gold-medal bout at the 2026 Asian Games. The Indian Olympic bronze medallist beat Kazakhstan's Natalya Bogdanova 3-2 in a grinding semi-final fight. She made history as the first Indian woman boxer to reach back-to-back Asian Games finals. This win guarantees India at least a silver medal.
Bogdanova, the 2025 world champion at 70kg, started the bout with pure aggression. She took the opening round as the two fighters traded heavy punches. Borgohain flipped the momentum in the second round, dominating the ring to earn a unanimous 5-0 score from the judges. The final round proved brutal. Both fighters battled until the bell. Although judges gave the final round to Bogdanova, Borgohain's overall performance locked in the victory.
The Assam native now turns her focus toward the final against China's Bao Ziyi. Bao enters the ring with momentum, having earned the 75kg gold at the 2026 Asian Boxing Elite Championships. Reflecting on her path, the boxer stated: "Lovlina has assured India of at least a silver medal in the women's 75kg category." Borgohain previously won gold at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, an event that also helped her qualify for the Paris Olympics.
