Guwahati: Lovlina Borgohain landed back in Delhi with a gold medal in her luggage. The Indian boxer clinched the title in the women's 75kg final on October 2 by beating China's Bao Ziyi 5-0. She celebrated the win on her 29th birthday. The gold marked a massive step up from the silver she secured at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.
The win completes a rare set of hardware for the fighter. Borgohain finalized her collection at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. She claims this accomplishment freed her mind. "I have a complete set of medals now - I finished the collection after the 2026 Commonwealth Games, which was a huge milestone for me. Going into this, I had nothing to lose, so my mindset was simply to go out and achieve something; I viewed any outcome as a privilege," she said.
Borgohain now turns her sights to the Olympic cycle. She earned bronze at Tokyo 2020 but walked away empty-handed from the 2024 Paris Games. She is gunning for redemption in Los Angeles. Her path forward runs through the upcoming World Championships. She plans to use that event to secure her ticket to the LA Olympics.
